Lodge and Travel Support
1. SEED Travel Support (for SEED Participants only)
Hotel accommodation
The KSEA will reserve a shared room for two matching participants. You don’t have to reserve your room since we will reserve yours for you. If you wish to share a room with a specific participant, please let us know by replying to this email.
If you wish not to share and use a room by yourself, please reserve a room yourself and request reimbursement after the workshop. We will support 50% of your hotel room charge, and you will be responsible for covering the remaining 50%. KSEA will release a designated travel reimbursement form after the workshop.
The max reimbursement amount is equal to half (50%) of the group rate although they stayed in the Hyatt hotel (from $129/per night plus tax and service charge).
Lodge support cannot be replaced with other benefits
Transportation support
Travel support is available to you as a SEED participant under the condition of holding an active KSEA membership and your full participation in the two-day event.
Reimbursement for travel expenses is up to $200, based on the one-way Google map distance from your home address to the SEED 2024 venue, as shown in the table below.
Reimbursement for driving a personal vehicle is calculated at $0.50 per mile one-way, up to the maximum amount indicated in the table below.
Meals
Lunch/dinner on Tuesday (August 20, 2024) and breakfast/lunch on Wednesday (August 21, 2024)
2. UKC Travel Support (SEED Participants who accepted their UKC abstract)
UKC registration discount of up to $350
Lodge support: Up to 3 nights (August 21-24, shared room). Please note that to receive additional lodging support, you need to attend UKC as a (poster) presenter and submit a travel support application separately.
Lodge support cannot be replaced with other benefits

Travel support up to $400 based on your one-way Google map distance from your home address to the UKC venue.
Note that UKC travel support is only applicable to UKC presenters.
Transportation support cannot be duplicated and will only be applied to the option that provides the most benefit to you (either SEED or UKC).
What is SEED?
SEED stands for Scientists and Engineers Early Career Development Workshop and is offered by KSEA and KOFST to provide mentorship to, and help develop the careers of, junior Korean-American scientists and engineers ranging from postdoctoral researchers to early career professionals.

When / Where is SEED 2024?
The 2024 Scientists and Engineers Early Career Development (SEED) Workshop will be held on August 20th (afternoon) – 21st (afternoon) in Hyatt Regency SFO San Francisco, California.
Who will be attending?
We plan to accept 70-80 participants (including Ph.D. students, postdocs, junior faculty, and early-career professionals in national labs & industry) who are particularly interested in the topic of “Building a Sustainable and Successful Career and Life.” The program will provide opportunities to discuss career development and emerging topics in the fields and cultivate the development of mentoring relationships among participants.

What are the selection criteria?
The selection criteria will be both merit and need-based (up to about 80 applicants)
What support will be provided for attendees?
✈️ Airfare up to $200 or driving mileage ($0.50/mile) up to $200
🏨 Hotel accommodation: One night (Tuesday, Aug 20th), Two per room.
🥄 Meals: Lunch/dinner on Aug 20th, Breakfast/lunch on Aug 21st.
Registration Fees
🎓 $50 for graduate students
🧑🎓 $75 for postdocs
🧍$100 for junior faculty, government employees, or early-stage professionals
