Burtrand I. Lee


Burtrand I. Lee is now professor emeritus in materials science & engineering at Clemson University, SC. He has received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida in 1986. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he joined the faculty of Ceramic & Materials engineering at Clemson University in South Carolina where he was a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering and director of Nanofabritech® until December 31, 2008.

In 1989 he has been Fulbright Professor at Norwegian Institute of Technology in Norway and a senior researcher at Hitachi Research Laboratory in 1993. Dr. Lee has published over 170 refereed journal papers including several U.S. patents and being editor for several books on ceramic/polymer processing. He was an associate editor for Journal of Nanomaterials and is a member of editorial board for several international materials journals, Materials Research Society, and a fellow of American Ceramic Society. Since 2009, Dr. Lee is with American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C. managing research grants and lectures frequently about competitive grant proposal writing.

He has made significant contributions to KSEA since 1983. He was executive secretary at KSEA Florida chapter in 1984. He founded South Carolina Chapter in 1987. He co-chaired numerous UKC symposia on renewable energy, research funding, STEM education and a workshop on small-medium business at UKC 2016.
